There are many countries that work together under the Hague convention to create families through intercountry adoption. Some of the busiest programs are the Philippines, India, Korea and China.
Program requirements, procedures and waiting times change from time to time. This can be a frustrating experience for couples at any stage of the adoption journey. To obtain the current status on any country with which we currently have a program you can go to the Department of Humans Services website http://dhs.vic.gov.au and click on the "Adoption" link.
ICARN itself can help in a number of ways: Country information nights are an excellent way to obtain more information about the country being considered. These are run in small groups, usually with a few others who have completed education groups through ICAS ( Intercountry Adoption Service.) We offer Country Information evenings for:
Program ManagementIt is also possible to have a program manager who will work with ICAS and the organisation overseas to help you through all stages but particularly after approval. Our program managers have many years of experience in intercountry adoption and are adoptive parents themselves. They have long standing relationships with many homes and the social workers who manage the homes. We offer program management for two countries-India and the Philippines.
